Tuesday, July 13, 8a: I know almost all of you set your alarms for 5:55a CST on Tuesday mornings in anticipation of The Collective so, for that, I am sorry. The host server? (I don't speak tech) was down and the auto-send didn't fire this morning...or fire...or fire...and now here we are...wherever this is...as in whenever this thing finally fires off and into your inbox.
Via survey, quite a few of you mentioned that "Long Reads" aren't your favorite because it's hard to commit to such a lengthy read on a Tuesday morning...and that makes complete sense. I'll be playing with formatting over the next few weeks and focusing on a variety of mediums.
She moved to New York and waitressed at Canastel’s at 19th and Park, where Sandra Bullock was a hostess. There were a lot of lost years when she was deep inside a coke habit. (“What a waste.”) When Coolidge went out to clubs like Area or Limelight, she pretended to be the least-known, completely fictional Hemingway daughter. “I always said I was Muffin Hemingway if I couldn’t get in,” she says. “One time I got thrown out of a club because I was behaving badly, and they said, ‘Don’t ever come back here, Muffin!’ ” [17 min. read]

Via the survey, quite a few of you asked me to review books that I've finished and that's always been the goal. However, my nightstand pile has been growing each week and I can't realistically keep up...but I am doing my darndest!
This week, I'm sharing a book that I finished as well as book that I added to the pile.
I've had this booked marked as "Want to Read" since it was announced earlier this year and it seemed perfect for a flight. Spoiler alert: it was perfect for the flight and I couldn't put it down - I finished it in less than two days. The epitome of a thriller with quite a few unpredictable twists. Gay or straight, this book will keep you hooked until the very last page.
Oliver Park, a young recovering addict from Indiana, finally has everything he ever wanted: sobriety and a loving, wealthy partner in Nathan, a prominent DC trauma surgeon. Despite their difference in age and disparate backgrounds, they've made a perfect life together. With everything to lose, Oliver shouldn't be visiting Haus, a gay bathhouse. But through the entrance he goes, and it's a line crossed. Inside, he follows a man into a private room, and it's the final line. Whatever happens next, Nathan can never know. But then, everything goes wrong, terribly wrong, and Oliver barely escapes with his life.
He races home in full-blown terror as the hand-shaped bruise grows dark on his neck. The truth will destroy Nathan and everything they have together, so Oliver does the thing he used to do so well: he lies.
What follows is a classic runaway-train narrative, full of the exquisite escalations, edge-of-your-seat thrills, and oh-my-god twists. P. J. Vernon's Bath Haus is a scintillating thriller with an emotional punch, perfect for readers curious for their next must-read novel.
This past week, I bought (and am REALLY excited for):
In a new book, Bryan Burrough and co-writers Chris Tomlinson and Jason Stanford challenge the historical lore of the Alamo — including the story that Davy Crockett refused to surrender. [35 min listen]
In their new book, Forget the Alamo, three Texans bust the myths about that famous “last stand” in San Antonio and a lot of it boils down to Phil Collins vs. Ozzy Osborne. [15 min. read]

This Loaded Steak Salad Bowl with Yogurt Green Goddess made with Greek yogurt is SUMMER PERFECTION. It’s bright and green and flavorful and tangy and perfect on top of a loaded steak salad. Heck, you could just drizzle it over steak or chicken or salmon and it would be delish. Throw it on some cooked quinoa or farro or rice. Serve it alongside some veggies… you get the idea!
"The urinal is a gay man’s number one penis viewing ground. I don’t even have to pee when I step up to one. Gay men don’t pee standing up. We do it on all fours while screaming Madonna lyrics. I frequent urinals for one purpose: the trembling, splotchy dick that fits in two and a half of your knuckles, particularly when I see that you have your other hand in a clenched fist, ready to strike at the mere inkling of a glance." It me. I'm Collin. Shockingly, I hate talking about myself but here are the CliffsNotes. 32, Texan turned cruise ship character turned Texan turned Chicagoan turned Texan. Event designer and planner.Interior designer and stylist.Corporate badass.Spotify playlist-makin' fiend. Fiancé and double dog dad. Cursed with an aggressive gluten intolerance but also a passion for bread and no f*cks to give. Why a newsletter? It gives me a creative outlet with a deadline and my therapist says these things are important. Plus, I love to read, shop, share, and most importantly spend time on the internet. I don't sleep.
